Volume-tracking Methods for Interfacial Flow Calculations

چکیده

A new algorithm for volume tracking which is based on the concept of flux-corrected transport (FCT) is introduced. It is applicable to incompressible 2D flow simulations on finite volume and difference meshes. The method requires no explicit interface reconstruction, is direction-split and can be extended to 3D and orthogonal curvilinear meshes in a straightforward manner. A comparison of the new scheme against well-known existing 2D finite volume techniques is undertaken. A series of progressively more difficult advection tests is used to test the accuracy of each scheme and it is seen that simple advection tests are inadequate indicators of the performance of volume-tracking methods. A straightforward methodology is presented that allows more rigorous estimates to be made of the error in volume advection and coupled volume and momentum advection in real flow situations. The volume advection schemes are put to a final test in the case of Rayleigh–Taylor instability. 1997 by CSIRO.

CFD Hydrodynamics Analysis of Syngas Flow in Slurry Bubble Column

In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...

Numerical Calculation of the Flow Field in a Bubble Column Considering the Absorption of the Gas Phase

The interfacial area per unit volume is one of the key parameters for the design of multiphase reactors. In this work a population balance approach is applied to calculate the interfacial area density in a bubble column. The resulting transport equation for the arithmetic bubble volume is coupled with the balance equations for mass and momentum. In addition the physical absorption of the gas ph...

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids

An adaptive technique, based on both surface stretching and surface curvature analysis for tracking strongly deforming fluid volumes in three-dimensional flows is presented. The efficiency and accuracy of the technique are demonstrated for twoand three-dimensional flow simulations. For the twodimensional test example, the results are compared with results obtained using a different tracking app...
